Karigirwa Sandra (Sandra K) was born in Rwanda and, when she was 15, was noticed by Frank Katoola of Tender Talents Magnet school in Kasangati, Uganda. He immediately recognized her talent for Rwanda dance and asked her aunt if Sandra could teach his pupils back in Uganda. Her aunt agreed. So, at age 15, she moved to Kasangati in Uganda which is quite near the capital of Kampala.

2000

She had only been there a few months, when she saw Gordon Nicol who was visiting TenderTalents. He was there to record the songs of Children of Uganda,
a troupe of young orphans who visit America every two years to raise money and awareness of Aids. Sandra is herself an orphan and, as soon as she saw Gordon, she decided to adopt him as her father. Gordon, who is originally from Ednburgh, Scotland, but now lives in Dallas, Texas in the USA touches lives with colour and sound using video and audio. Further down, you can view video demo.

2002 December
Her new dad heard her sing and was so very impressed by her beautiful, clear voice. He new that this voice would touch hearts. On his second visit in 2002, he recorded Sandra singing   La Grande Afrique, Hakuna, Malaika, Asanti Baba and some others.

These were recorded in a school room at Tender Talents Magnet school in Kasangati direct to MiniDisc. They’re very pure with no studio effects.

While she's over there, she intends to record Peace African Youth Ensemble and use these tracks as background to the documentary. She's also considering this wonderful song which Karigirwa leads with a powerful, haunting chant. Ndare. Juliet really loved Sandra’s voice and featured her in all the songs she recorded.

2006 July
Sandra goes into the studio for the very first time and records an incredible album. She wrote all the songs and these songs have been getting a lot of praise.

Much gratitude to Didi March who recorded and produced the songs. He also wrote and composed the music which is so perfect for Sandra’s voice.
